ANU Sculpture alumni Making Tracks

Making Tracks is a new exhibition at the ANU School of Art that showcases 25 years of ANU Sculpture Workshop alumni.
The show, which opened last Friday, is part of the 2013 Canberra Centenary celebrations. It features seventeen School of Art graduates.
“Sculptors who are alumni from the Sculpture Workshop are active in the national and international art scene. Their work reflects current cultural, political and environmental concerns and pushes material and conceptual boundaries,” says curator and Sculpture Workshop Lecturer Paul Hay.
“This exhibition is a sampler of current practice by the workshop’s alumni, but not a definitive history of ANU Sculpture graduates.”
The diverse range of works, made over the last few years, reflect the current dynamism of sculpture. Pieces in the exhibition demonstrate varied approaches to subjects, media and ways of creating sculpture. While there’s no overarching curatorial theme, what unites the pieces is the artists’ shared history with ANU.
The idea to bring the Sculpture Workshop’s alumni together for an exhibition was conceived years ago. The Centenary of Canberra celebrations provided the perfect opportunity for the show. “The Centenary year as a whole has been excellent in promoting visual art - it’s shown the depth of Canberra’s art community,” says Paul.
Exhibiting artists include: Michele Beevors, Pamela Lofts, Anne Neil, Melanie Fitzmaurice, Jacqueline Bradley, Rachel Bowak, Simon Scheuerle, Owen Lewis, Louis Pratt, Noelene Lucas, Camille Serisier, Joel Bliss, Jay Kochel, Amanda Stuart, Peter Van der Mark, Anna Simic and Cristy Gilbert.
Making Tracks is now showing at the ANU School of Art Gallery and Foyer Gallery until Saturday 1 June 2013.
An electronic version of the catalogue is available on the School of Art website.
